Challenge
Our client aims to gain a comprehensive understanding of its competitive positioning and market dynamics in the B2B wholesale sector to inform its future strategic path in retaining and acquiring new B2B customers. Our team was commissioned to lead a research piece to identify the brand’s market position and growth spaces to champion the wholesale game.
B2B User Reseach
Evaluate 19 features across the B2B wholesales process by conducting interviews with both the brand’s customers & Accenture wholesale experts to understand the maturity of capabilities of the brand in comparison to competitors and uncover excellence, gaps and flop areas

Research plan definition
The crafting of interview guides for multiple end-users required me to be very thoughtful about how I would ultimately triangulate answers to get insights on the ranking of our client wholesale process performances against competitors. To achieve this, I carefully crafted interview guides that would allow me to triangulate answers across different user groups and highlight key insights into performance gaps and opportunities. I designed a set of core questions that were consistent across different questionnaires, allowing me to assess the maturity of the wholesale journey on a 1-10 scale on different criteria.
Given the client’s directive to focus heavily on the 19 features in the customer interview guide through very specific, narrow questions, I used the interviews with wholesale experts as a complementary research channel. These expert insights helped uncover best-in-class features, key drivers of customer satisfaction, and potential strategies for improving retention.
Additionally, I developed an alternative interview guide for customers who were newly onboarded to the brand’s tools. This guide used more open-ended questions to gain a deeper, more holistic understanding of their experiences and needs—particularly in relation to competitors. This approach allowed us to capture richer insights into how customers perceive and engage with the product while uncovering valuable opportunities for differentiation.

Interviews
We conducted 19 interviews across five different markets to capture a diverse, representative sample of the customer base. To accommodate the various languages spoken, I coordinated with Spanish- and Italian-speaking colleagues, training them on the principles and best practices of qualitative research. I provided them with easy-to-follow guides and clear instructions to ensure consistency and quality in the interview process.
All interviews were recorded and transcribed using Lookback, allowing us to analyze the data thoroughly and ensure that insights from each market were captured accurately.

Insights Analysis
To streamline the process of deriving insights, all transcriptions were transferred to Dovetail, where a tagging taxonomy was created beforehand to group and organize insights under different themes. Using AI to generate summaries of grouped quotes and insights enabled me to produce an extensive research playback of 100+ slides in 10 days.

C-Suite Deck
The B2B competitive research was designed to inform future product development and was presented to the C-suite directors of the brand. I structured the findings using clear data visualizations and visual storytelling techniques to ensure the insights were easily digestible and actionable. This approach helped communicate key insights compellingly, enabling senior leadership to make informed, data-driven decisions with confidence.
Opportunities Building
Following our audit of excellence, flop and gaps areas, we identified growth opportunities to elevate the brand's wholesale process and match the excellence of leading wholesale practices in the digital era, providing buyers with an unparalleled purchasing journey

Opportunities ideation & prioritzation
By triangulating insights from both desktop research and user feedback, we facilitated a series of ideation sessions to uncover strategic opportunities that would position our client to excel in the wholesale market. These opportunities spanned a range from "closing the gap with competitors" to "exploring growth areas for differentiation."
To prioritize these opportunities, we employed a value-effort matrix, evaluating each feature set based on its potential impact, ease of implementation, and time to launch. We also conducted a cost estimation for each opportunity to ensure feasibility and alignment with business goals.
This collaborative process led to the identification of three key opportunities that we recommended moving forward. These opportunities were designed to be implemented either simultaneously or in stages, creating a cohesive strategy for driving growth.

Opportunities building
In this phase, each prioritized opportunity was thoroughly detailed, outlining the specific features or feature developments required to deliver value. For each opportunity, we also assessed potential implementation risks and established measurable OKRs to ensure clarity around the next steps for execution. To align stakeholders on a unified vision, UI snippets were designed to provide a tangible preview of the proposed solutions.
To showcase the potential business impact, particularly in driving growth within the wholesale customer segment, we calculated the estimated commercial value of each opportunity, providing a data-driven perspective on how these initiatives could contribute to business success.
Outcomes
5 opportunities were identified for the brand's B2B wholesale solution from buy-in to buy-out based on extensive research.
